The Dears to Perform Entire New Album at Upcoming Residencies

To introduce audiences to their new collection of songs, acclaimed art rock band The Dears will play a series of residencies during which they will perform their forthcoming record (coming early 2011) in full. The eight residency shows – three consecutive nights in Toronto and Montreal and two in Brooklyn – will recapture the essence of band’s immensely successful string of shows in Mexico City this past May.
The Dears will be donating proceeds from every merch sale at these residencies to Montreal City Mission and War Child. “Some of the items are rare, might be the wrong size, while some things are out of print and may be sold at ridiculous prices. But this is not just about raising money. People hurt everywhere, all the time, and in so many ways. Essentially, this is what we sing about and sometimes singing just ain’t enough. By taking some of this stuff off our hands, hopefully folks will remember who they’re helping and why,” says the band of the endeavor.

The Dears Announce Mexico City Residency

Montreal-based sextet The Dears will become Mexico City’s Pasagüero’s house band for a three-day residency. The band is emerging from the cold Montreal winter with a collection of almost 30 brand new songs for its upcoming album. The shows will take place May 6, 7 and 8 and will be recorded in HD-video for a special edition pressing of the album for its fall-winter release.
After months holed up in grey, wintry Montreal collaborating on the new album, The Dears are eager to share these adventurous songs with their Mexican audience, who have played a key role in the band’s survival. From being catapulted to international success with 2004’s No Cities Left, to the difficult period of adjustments that followed 2006’s Gang of Losers album, ensuing lineup changes nearly pushed them to consider the band’s permanent dissolution. Yet their 2009 sold-out concert at Lunario in Mexico City helped The Dears find the strength and faith to continue, taking the music to the next level with the aptly-titled most recent LP, Missiles. “The Dears’ heart was beating slowly and was dying”, Lightburn told the Mexican crowd during the show, “but Mexico has injected blood and made it stronger again, beating with more strength than ever. We will never forget this.”
More details regarding the upcoming album and the new line-up of The Dears will be announced soon.
