Dangerbird Welcomes Los Angeles Art-Punk Band Broadheds

Thursday December 6, 2012 - 33 months ago

Perhaps it’s bold these days to embark upon a musical project for the sake of art alone, but that’s exactly what Dangerbird Records co-founder & musician, Peter Walker (Eulogies) has done.

Assembling an all-star cast of stalwart music makers, including Denny Weston Jr. who plays drums in the longstanding West Coast indie outfit, Earlimart, James King, sophisto sax dude from Fitz and The Tantrums and Justin Meldal-Johnsen, (whose credits include Nine Inch Nails and Beck) on the bass, Walker presents Broadheds — a new project that, while haphazardly invoking the universal contributions of James Chance and the Contortions, Bad Manners and a man named Joe Strummer in equal parts, is undeniably its own thing.

And so it is that Broadhed’s debut album is set for release on, you guessed it, Dangerbird this spring—executive produced by Meldal-Johnsen with all songs written by Walker, who says of the outfit, “…It’s basically a dream band that came together for 3 or 4 days in the studio with a collective enthusiasm for high-energy, raw, fun songs. But what sets this experience apart for me is the band’s passion to stick together and bring the music to a live setting.”

But the first order of business here is to mention that two of the epic art punk ejacs to be included on the aforementioned album, the ska set “Something All Our Own” and the record’s ecstatic straight-up old school punk kick off, “Nothing That I Care About,” (FREE DOWNLOAD at BROADHEDS.COM) will be interspersed with the action in tonight’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC.

“This is such an exciting way to introduce the music. The people behind the scenes at Grey’s Anatomy were fans of the last Eulogies record and featured the lead track on one of their episodes last year,” says Walker of the opportunity. “It’s so great to see they are down with this new project as well.”

Also worth an initial mention is that Broadheds have teamed up with celebrated LA-based artist/illustrator, Mark Todd for a 62-page book/compendium to be released along with the musical content, comprising the album packaging.
