Last week, Butch Walker and The Black Widows music video for “Synthesizers” (directed by Shane Valdes) premiered on VEVO. The video stars Matthew McConaughey reviving his character of “Wooderson” from the 1993 film Dazed and Confused.

The Fling’s debut album, When The Madhouses Appear, received high praise from such outlets as the LA Record, cheers it as “heartfelt and personal,” and KROQ.com “Locals Only” Blog acclaims, “although The Fling certainly exude a nostalgic aura, they simultaneously maintain a sound that is both progressive and unfamiliar.”

Butch Walker and The Black Widows new music video for “Synthesizers” features an unlikely guest… Matthew McConaughey portraying his infamous character “Wooderson” from the 1993 film Dazed & Confused.

“To commemorate the 20 year anniversary of the filming and inception of this amazing movie,” Walker says, “we brought a little someone from the film back to be the life of the party for our new video for the song ‘Synthesizers.’ The song lyrics really relate to just about anyone who has a hard time moving on with the changes that life throws at you.”

For the compilation, Silversun Pickups covered Bob Dylan’s “Not Dark Yet” – a song originally released on Dylan’s 1997 album Time Out of Mind. The collection is scheduled for both physical (4 discs) and digital release in North America on January 24, 2012.

Through Chimes of Freedom, Amnesty International seeks to enlist support for its fight against censorship and attacks on free speech – whether involving artists, writers, musicians, political activists or bloggers. These shows will feature the band’s classic line-up – featuring lead singer/guitarist Davey von Bohlen, drummer Dan Didier, guitarist Jason Gnewikow and bassist Scott Schoenbeck – performing songs from throughout their beloved catalog.

“I’m looking forward to hanging out with the guys again, playing songs and shows,” said Dan Didier of The Promise Ring. “I am also eager to get the songs that haven’t seen the light of day out into the world.”

Formed in 1995 in Milwaukee, WI, The Promise Ring released three full-length albums on Jade Tree Records—1996’s 30 Degrees Everywhere, 1997’s Nothing Feels Good, and 1999’s Very Emergency – which garnered rave reviews and earned the band a devoted following for their unique sound, which molded indie rock into a new subgenre that became known as “emo.”

The Promise Ring became the first rock band to sign with Epitaph’s Anti- Records for their highly acclaimed 2002 swan song, Wood/Water, which was produced by Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur) at famed Jacobs Studios outside London.

During their prolific career, the band toured with a first-rate group of like-minded bands including At the Drive In, Jimmy Eat World, Jets to Brazil, Burning Airlines, and many others. After an amicable break-up, the band’s sound and reputation have lived on as an important influence on countless bands.

Meanwhile, Promise Ring members have enjoyed further success with other projects: Von Bohlen and Didier with their new band, Maritime, which released their fourth album, Human Hearts, on Dangerbird Records in April 2011; and Schoenbeck as a longtime member of Dashboard Confessional.

Fitz and The Tantrums went down to Wall Street yesterday to play “MoneyGrabber” and “Dear Mr. President” for Occupy Wall Street protesters in Zuccotti Park.

Political action website MoveOn.org sent cameras along and filmed the band’s performance for the protesters.

The video was filmed and edited by Michelle Repiso on the band’s most recent tour with Minus the Bear.

The band, who are slated to do a sold out headlining show at NYC’s Terminal 5 that evening, will perform stripped down versions of their songs, “Moneygrabber” and “Dear Mr. President,” appropriate selections from their current Pickin’ Up The Pieces album.

Band frontman Michael Fitzpatrick adds, “We wanted to show our support to the Occupy Wall Street protestors everywhere who are keeping the focus on the culture of greed that is pervasive in our financial institutions and the lack of reform and accountability that has taken place. We are not anti-capitalist but we are not in support of an untethered Wall Street without regulations and without the Glass-Steagall act that protected our society after the great depression up until the 1980’s. We Need Reform Now.”

The band is currently in the middle of their U.S. tour with Walk The Moon. New York City, Washington DC, and three nights in Chicago have all sold out, but tickets are still available in a few other cities. Get ‘em fast!

Speaking of open roads… the guys are currently traveling at 65 miles-per-hour from Milwaukee to the East Coast for a string of shows this weekend. Tonight the band visits Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia, tomorrow is The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, then off to Washington DC and Columbus OH before returning home next week.

The band doesn’t often get out of the midwest, so the lucky people in these few cities should definitely come out and sing along.

The 7-song What I’ve Seen EP highlights the band’s lush guitar sound-scapes and ethereal harmonies that first appeared on the band’s debut album When the Madhouses Appear, which was originally self-released in August of 2010.

The 5-song Hello Anxiety EP began to take shape in an apartment above an antique store near Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. The songs are a translation of Guineafowl’s life stories; a scrapbook collection of of fuck-ups, frustrations and elation. From the stomping “Botanist” to the harsh “My Lonely Arms” to the grateful “Little Fingers,” this talented lyricist is translating his take on the world, assessing circumstance and critiquing every move.
